Why this matters to us

I've spent enough years as a freelance artist to know what it feels like when the admin side of this life quietly takes over. The unanswered emails. The portfolio you keep meaning to update. The hours that go into just staying visible and organized, hours that should have gone into the work itself. We built The Pending because we lived that, and we've spent the years since watching thousands of you live it too, and listening every time you told us what still wasn't working.

2.0 is what came out of listening.

We rebuilt this from the ground up We didn't tweak a few things and call it a new version. We took everything we'd learned from actually running this platform, every conversation, every piece of feedback, every moment we watched someone struggle with something we could fix, and rebuilt around it. The Pending is now available on web. A mobile app is coming back soon too, built on the same foundation.

The biggest change: portfolio and most tools are free

Your portfolio, and most of the tools around it, are now completely free. No catch, no trial period that quietly ends. Your portfolio is exactly what it sounds like: a place to show your work, your reels, your credits, whatever represents you as an artist. But it's also more than that if you want it to be. You can make it visible and searchable so agencies and casting directors can find you, or you can keep it private and just use it as your own clean, simple website. Either way works. That choice is yours.

More than a portfolio

Around that core, we've built out a set of tools meant to take the friction out of the parts of freelance life that have nothing to do with your craft and everything to do with keeping your career running. Finding jobs that actually fit you, instead of checking five different boards out of habit. Keeping track of who you've talked to, what you sent them, and what's still waiting on a reply. Managing the people and clients you work with without it all living in your head or a dozen scattered notes. The stuff that eats hours you'd rather spend on the work itself.

We're not going to walk through every one of them here. That's what the next few articles are for. For now, just know it's there, and it's worth exploring.

Where AI comes in

We're using AI in this too, and we've thought hard about how. The industry is moving, and we're not interested in pretending it isn't. But we're also not interested in AI that pretends to be creative for you, or that makes decisions that should stay yours. That's a line we take seriously.

What we've built it for is time. Sorting, organizing, the repetitive parts of staying on top of your career, handled in the background so you're not the one doing it manually at 11pm. Nothing about your work, your voice, or your choices gets automated. What gets automated is the admin around it, so there's more room left for the actual art.
