Eight Experienced Dancers for OUTCAST Dance Production
Theater der Jugend Wien is seeking eight experienced dancers for the physically demanding dance production OUTCAST, choreographed by Valentin Alfery. World premiere in April 2027.
Rehearsal Period: February 17, 2027 - April 29, 2027
Performance Period: April 6 - April 29, 2027 (up to eight performances per week, including possible double performances)
Required Qualifications:
- Experienced dancers with pronounced physical presence and strong floorwork skills
- Experience with improvisation and choreographic development processes
- Individual movement language, physical precision, and stage presence
- Background in street and club styles welcome but not required
- Pro-active approach during rehearsals and willingness to independently develop movement material
- Working language during rehearsals is English; German language skills welcome but not required
Casting Process:
Casting takes place November 9-10, 2026 at Theater der Jugend (full days). Participation requires prior appointment scheduling. The casting involves choreographic material, improvisation, partner and group tasks, as well as exercises with gestures, language, and character development.

- Links to existing dance or performance material
- One-minute video: Record an uncut one-take improvisation exploring a self-chosen supernatural ability (e.g., manipulating time, becoming invisible, changing form, defying gravity, influencing light, sound, or other bodies)

Important Requirements:
- Applicants must have reliable accommodation in Vienna for the entire rehearsal and performance period. Theater der Jugend cannot provide housing.
- Full availability required for the entire rehearsal and performance period.
- Applications from people of all genders, different body types, origins, and biographies are explicitly welcome. Particularly encouraged: BiPoC, queer, trans, inter, and non-binary persons.
- Collective agreement rates apply; application costs cannot be reimbursed.
