Sending invitations

An invitation is you approaching one specific person about one specific project. It is the opposite of a listing: instead of publishing and waiting, you ask someone directly.

Sending one

Open the project at /projects/ and send the invitation from there — invitations always belong to a project. You can also ask Spotty to open the invitation form for you.

Include what the person needs to decide: what the work is, when, where, and the terms. An invitation with a real offer in it gets answered; a vague one does not.

What happens next

  • The person receives the invitation and can accept or decline.
  • You can see the state of every invitation from the project.
  • You can revoke an invitation that is no longer relevant.

Invitation, listing, or message?

  • Invitation — you want this particular person for this particular project.
  • Listing — you want to be found by people you do not know yet.
  • Message or email — you want a conversation without a formal ask attached.

Following up

No reply is not a no. Set the person's pipeline stage on your roster to Follow-up and come back to it. One polite follow-up is normal; three is not.

After they accept

Keep the relationship rather than letting it end with the project. Add them to your roster with a note about how it went, so the next time you need someone you are writing to a known contact.
